Training Overview
ASIST Workshop
(Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
- Teaches participants to recognize and intervene with individuals at risk of suicide.
- Applicable to diverse audiences, requiring no formal training.
- Covers suicide first-aid for various settings, fostering a common language for community-wide understanding.
When: October 28 and 29. Monday and Tuesday. 8:30am to 4:30pm both days.
Where: Ithaca Crisis Services.

SafeTALK: Suicide Alertness Training
- Is a 3 to 4 hour training that equips community members to recognize and connect individuals with suicidal thoughts to intervention resources.
- Complements skills of suicide intervention caregivers, such as ASIST attendees.
- Designed for up to 30 participants, accessible to all, and customizable for different groups.
Suicide Prevention Trainings for Everyone
- Free trainings offered by various organizations, including ASIST, safeTALK, QPR, etc.
- Open to individuals and groups, with a minimum of 10 attendees required.
- Organizations can request on-site training for their members.
QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer
- One-hour training teaching three simple steps to save a life from suicide.
- Similar to CPR, equipping individuals to recognize warning signs and refer someone to help.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
- 8-hour course for individuals 18 and older, offering an action plan to help young people (ages 12-18) with mental health or substance use problems.
- Recommended for teachers, coaches, social workers, faith leaders, and caring citizens.
Suicide Safety for Teachers
- 1-hour in-person training meeting basic suicide prevention awareness needs for school faculty and staff.
- Covers warning signs, faculty roles, school procedures, addressing suicide in the classroom, and reinforcing protective factors.

September Awareness Event
In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month, the Walk a Mile Suicide Prevention Committee offers “Gizmo’s Pawesome
Guide to Mental Health” to elementary educators and those serving persons with developmental disabilities.
This award-winning book has been teaching children across the country about their emotions. Written from the Perspective of Gizmo, a small cuddly therapy dog, the book aims to teach children to take care of their mental health by recognizing warning signs and developing healthy coping strategies.
